Blade Quality
One of the most notable features of a hand made knife in the blade quality. Not only is the overall fit and finish guaranteed to be better quality.
The steel quality is often better too. you can buy a machined knife with some pretty high quality steel but by buying a hand made knife, you can trust that that steel has gone through a very careful and tedious process of heat treating and tempering by hand so the smith is able to make sure the blade is getting optimal treatments rather than your standard machining process.
Sharpness
Edge sharpness is possibly the most important thing when it comes to knives.
a machined knife often gets sharpened by a machine also and the sad truth about that is, you just cant get an edge like you can by hand. the attention to detail just isn't there with a computer.
You don't start getting extremely sharp knifes until you get into hand made knives.
RPM Neil with Tkamimura blacksmith has done some amazing things when it comes to sharpening knives. this guy is literally splitting hairs with his knives. you just aren't going to find that with your store bought stuff.
Value
Hand made knives are a very special tool and work of art. The knife making process requires many man hours to forge, cut out, shape and finish. Thanks to this process we are able to provide such high quality products.
Along with high quality can come a higher price. Of corse any knife at the store is cheaper but the quality is also cheaper. With a handmade knife you get amazing work, great customization and give tremendous support to a small business.
