Welcome to the backyard blades blog. In this blog I will cover a range of topics in the knife world to hopefully teach you a bit about fixed blade knives through sharing my work and discussing the best blades for any job you may put them through.
Knives are on of the oldest tools in our history dating back 1.4 million years. Why we use knives is different for all of us. Some carry a knife while hiking or camping, hunting or fishing, self defense, or maybe just to open boxes and mail. There are many options out there creating an exciting world to explore. This blog is here to help you understand what knife is best for you as well as how to care for that knife. I hope to help guide you in the right direction for finding your perfect knife.
Knife Types
There are many types of knives out there made for specific tasks. Knife blades and handles change a lot depending on their intended application. This next short section will brush along the details of where you might want to start. If you want more information on picking a knife type, you can read about it in my "Knife Types" section of the blog.
Another important aspect of finding the perfect knife for you is the handle shape and material. the overall size and shape of your handle can change a lot depending on what you will be using it for. you should also consider whether you want a very strong handle materials, good grip, and aesthetics.
lastly you should consider the size of the knife. how long do you want it? is it going to be used for heavy applications that requires a long blade or are you going to carry it every day at work and want it smaller and less noticeable?

Knife Care
Caring for your knife is crucial. Finding the right knife for the job is important but taking care of that knife regardless of the application is so much more important. It doesn't matter how much you spend on a blade for quality if you don't care for it.
In this section of the blog I hope to share some tips and tricks of the hobby to help keep your blades as sharp and shiny as the day you bought it.
EDC
Okay so you either know what knife you want, or you already have the perfect knife. Now what?
In this section of my blog you will find details of tips and tricks that I have found to carry my knives everyday. it can be hard to carry a fixed blade knife at first but with a little practice you will soon forget you even have it until you need it.
I will also go into a little bit of detail on what I carry and how you can optimize your EDC on a budget. I will share my experiences of how, why and when I have used my EDC and help you figure that out for yourself.
